Lets discuss what the real best build is for any game. And why it actually does not matter what that build is. Your character should be an adventurer, and they should be a team player. Even if they are annoying about it.

Usually the best experiences you’ll have as a player come from engagement with the world and the players around you. Damage and abilities will only carry your gaming so far. That said, optimizing a character does not in any way prevent you from roleplaying effectively. If anything optimization is sometimes what’s needed to bring a character concept to life. Having a grizzled veteran of combat doesn’t mean much if he can’t land a hit on a sleeping kobold.
